Antibiotics and Your Gut

Posted .

Antibiotics are wonder drugs for many infectious conditions, but antibiotic use does not come without risks. Disruption of your normal gut flora is a known side effect. A recent report in the November issue of “Microbiology” shows antibiotic resistance genes are present in the gut flora for up to two years following a typical antibiotic regimen. Always take antibiotics prudently and consider using probiotics whenever you are prescribed antibiotics. Probioitcs replenish and protect your natural microbial flora.
