Braces: Why Start Early

We now understand that the developing jaws can be expanded to make room for a mouth full of teeth for which there is inadequate space. The benefit of pre-puberty expansion is usually that adult teeth are allowed room to come in, most times without having to remove them due to crowding. This expansion usually creates a better cosmetic appearance when growth is completed and can also lead to better development of the sinus spaces and jaw joints. The disadvantage is longer time in orthodontic treatment and possibly increased cost, but cost can actually be less if little treatment is required after expansion.
