A case study published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology linked a 35 year old woman’s gum disease with the still born death of her full term baby. Pregnancy related gum disease is very common and in this case the same bacteria that caused her gum disease were found to be present in her baby’s lungs and stomach. Every pregnant woman should have a dental examination, including a screening for gum disease. Many insurance companies will support more frequent dental cleanings for pregnant woman.
