Tell Your Dentist if You are Bleaching Your Teeth

Posted .

There is a lot of interest in white teeth today and dental bleaches do work really well for many people. However, if you bleach your teeth with any whitening agent, make sure you tell your dentist. The bleaching agents push oxygen deep into the tooth and this can disrupt “dental bonding.” If you do not stop bleaching 2 weeks prior to dental treatment involving adhesive bonding (which is much of our practice), the bleach will keep the adhesive from sticking to the tooth. Even over the counter products can cause problems if you do not stop 2 weeks prior to your dental visit.
